A hotel, but on the water

Not a room with a view. A berth with a story.

The Johanna Engelina is a Zeeland two-mast clipper from 1897. In winter she becomes a floating hotel at NDSM wharf, where you wake to coffee in the warm saloon and the gentle sway of the IJ beneath you. Rugged history, warm wood, hospitality you won't find in any hotel.

Since 1897

Over 125 years of history beneath your bunk

Built in 1897 in Middelburg, the Johanna Engelina spent her first decades as a cargo ship named the Daniël Jacoba. After a rich working life on the waters of Zeeland and South Holland she was lovingly restored into a sailing passenger ship. Skipper Laurens Sinaasappel has been at the helm since 1999, and every winter she moors in Amsterdam as a hotel ship.
